Throughout my long career
I’ve heard from all the wisest voices
In every life that’s lived
There are three monumental choices

Decisions so important
It’s my sure and firm belief
They tell if you will have a life
Of happiness or grief

The first and most important is
Selection of a spouse
The second is your business
And the third one is your house

Years of evolution
And the time it takes to make them
Have signaled their significance
And care with which we take them

But now this ancient wisdom
Is extinct and counts for naught
Considering the turns with which
Each waking hour is fraught

An inadvertent pronoun
Could your future make or break
The way you wear your masking
Or which vaccine that you take

The casual remark
That labels you a woke denier
When saying that you pray for someone
Makes you a pariah

It’s fighting off demise that comes
By thousands of incisions
We’re simply not equipped to make
So many grave decisions

Every move you make
Sure shouldn’t seem like life or death
Leaving you no time to --  wind your watch
Or catch your breath

So now that we’ve acknowledged
This life changing complication
How do we adjust
To rid ourselves of consternation?

A strategy to ease the jolts
And smooth life’s bumpy ride
I’ve thought a lot about it
But, alas, I can’t decide
