Inferno Number 10

If you’ve never read Inferno

From the Comedy Divine

You may have heard the circles down in Hades

Number nine

The deeper you descend

The more intense the pain is

Fitting as the punishment

For crimes that are more heinous

I don’t have skills like Dante

As anyone can tell

However, let me conjure up

A tenth circle of hell

The ninth is for betrayers

Of their mentors—think of Brutus

Or even of divinity

Who joins him there but Judas

But we need another circle

A deeper place to fall

For the staffers and the pundits

Who betrayed us—one and all

And sadder, even sadder

In this tragedy’s portrayal

Are the once respected voices

Who succumbed to self-betrayal

They built a reputation

So their programs could be trusted

In the service of deception–

Reputation busted

It profits a man nothing

To sell their soul for dough

But what I’ll never understand

They lost it all for Joe

They may pretend they’re moving on

They may try not to show it

But when you’re in Inferno

Believe me, friend, you know it

Commission a poem from Joe

Tell him the story. He'll find the verse in it.
