The sun was unaware
And no one told the grass.
The ocean, o so ignorant
Of what had come to pass.
The meteor I spotted
Took no notice of my lot
I asked the moon to pity me
It said that it would not
The star I’d learned to wish upon
Had vanished from the sky
There was no sadder figure
At that moment friends, than I
But then I thought a bit
Of other things I couldn’t see
My love for a good woman
And the love she has for me
The comforting of friendship
And all that friendship means
The people of Ohio
And the folks I know from Queens
My faith in His creation
And the silly human race
Together on our journey
To a safer, better place
And so, I told the grass and sun
The moon and ocean too
You can’t stop me from rhyming
‘Cause this is what I do
And if you have something you love
That goes the same for you
