The primaries have started
And the general is looming
Business for the pundits
And politicos is booming
We’re always in a campaign mode
That’s the news that’s trending
There’s no election cycle
Just a run that’s never ending
Yes, some say that the Founders
Would find this standing stunning
And write op-ed opinions
Opposing all this running
For President, one six-year term
Move Senators to eight
And each four years we’d fill the House
Now wouldn’t that be great?
But with our fine technology
From sea to shining sea
With all such propositions
I deeply disagree
The plan that I’m proposing
And whose virtues I’m extolling
Aims to set a framework for
Extreme and frequent polling
Whether there’s a crisis
Or just a slow-ish newsday
I demand elections
Every other Tuesday
Then if a politician
Reveals himself a lout
We all pick up our cellphones
And vote the scoundrel out
You may not see embracing
This plan that I propose
But you must be in agreement
It will keep them on their toes
My plan will leave the voters
Far more blessed than bitter
And maybe even pave the way
For monetizing Twitter
