I have an eye for trends

And one that’s sweeping through the nation

Is an unexpected Renaissance

In self-examination

While the world may be in chaos

And the ship of state is lurching

The leadership is focused on

Their souls–through which they’re seaching

You’ve seen it in the headlines

This tend that I’ve been praising

And it goes beyond the limits

of just routine naval gazing

In a story the enlisted

Would find trying to believe

The SECDEF, that’s Lloyd Austin

Turned up absent without leave

His staff announced, at once

It was the truth they’d be pursuing

And concluded things went wrong

But with an absence of wrong-doing.

They followed all the clues

And didn’t care which way they went

Asserting that you’re innocent

When lacking ill-intent

Complete exoneration

Can be guaranteed and seen to

If you say with deep conviction

That you really didn’t mean to

Their scrutiny was scrupulous

Their motivation’s, pure

Of course, these same folks told us

That the border was secure

So, when you face the music

Just be sure that you’re in charge

And that includes the documents

You keep in your garage
