The world is changing faster

Than the changes I recall

So much so I’ve concluded

That it hasn’t changed at all

The feelings now expressed

By every plutocrat and minion

Reflect what’s always been

The clear majority opinion

Nobody cheered inflation

Or censorship of words

Or wanted wheezy windmills

Killing whales and birds

We didn’t vote for lawfare

Or insects making meat

Or seeing soldiers fleeing in

Disorderly retreat

There’s always been consensus

Expressed from town to town

If spy balloons come floating by

They ought to be shot down

The goal should be equality

In every institution

The courts should be for justice

And not for retribution

And while we love the planet

The green deal was a scheme

Title IX is crystal clear

And nine months is extreme

You say there’ve been great changes

And I say, “Friend, not really”

Most people who believe these things

Are now just speaking freely
