I’ve visited euphoria

On weekends in the past

The thing about those visits is

The feeling doesn’t last

It’s never been complete for me

This notion of elation

Reality sets in

Right in the midst of celebration

Someone’s always pointing out

Majorities are slim

No one wants a vote

That’s even close to sink or swim

We’ve got to be bipartisan

To get around the cork

There isn’t any budget

If it doesn’t have some pork

The Left measures success

By counting dollars that they’ve spent

The Right wins an election

And with that they are content

Both of those opinions
Are the source of our bereavement

Most folks that I know assess success

By pointing to achievement

So, in the context of this view

There’s one thing that I’m asking

In the glow of victory

There’d better be no basking

Here is my request to Congress

Please don’t say its stunning

When you hit the ground

We all expect you to be running
