To those who say we’re finished
And our politics are broke
I say you lack perspective
And you just can’t take a joke
We’re one ginormous family
And like all fam’lies fight
As one way toward arriving at
A sense of wrong and right
Contending for our country
And I think from coast to coast
The ones who laugh the loudest
Are the ones who love her most
Consider that opponents
Who don’t think the way you do
Deep in their delusions…
Yes, they clearly love her too
And though it seems impossible
At compromise to meet them
A healthy change of attitude
Will help you to defeat them
Bury your amazement
That they ever got this far
And gently show the populace
What barnacles they are
So even when the rhetoric
Turns hard and rough and callous
Remember Father Abraham
Said none should harbor malice
And when you go to cast your vote
As campaigns reach the fall
Crush them at the ballot box
With charity for all
