I think Bernie is a madman
And MS. Clinton is a liar
But when I read this couplet
I’m just preaching to the choir

What she did deserves indicting
And I’m mad because she ain’t
While my lefty next-door neighbor
Thinks the lady is a saint

He’s a Hillary disciple
And a Sanders devotee
He thinks speech should be restricted
And that college should be free

If the sun is up there shining
Or some clouds are out there storming
I perceive it to be weather
While he calls it global warming

We hurl barbs across the hedges
And at loggerheads we tweet
And despite my slick summations
Our two minds will never meet

At one time a man’s opinion
You could sharpen, shape and hone
But today it’s more than likely
That opinion’s set in stone

I recall a different outlook
When it wasn’t just this way
And a person saw the sageness
In perceiving shades of grey

When a difference of opinion
Made you open for discussion
Not a slender thread of deference
From contusions and concussion

It’s so clear it should be gospel
That no matter how one tries
You can read the Book of Wisdom
But that do not make you wise

So if you’re in Tarzana
And you hear a poet cursin’
It’s because I’ve been unable
To persuade a single person
