The country is in peril
And the rally might unravel
If by this time next Tuesday
Pelosi gets the gavel
That is the likely outcome
Say the wise who are conventional
Dividing up the powers
By the Founders was intentional
The split between the parties
Our electorate elects
Provides the needed tempering
Of balances and checks
And though it may be prudent
Or perhaps a bit misguided
Our Congress may have shifted
When the mid-terms are decided
Despite some healthy trends
That have been seen in early voting
Democrats believe that
It’s all over but the gloating
Yeses on low taxes
Will be turned to nyets and nadas
New committee chairs
Will be unleashed like Torquemadas
Six more Special Counsels
Will be issuing subpoenas
Long parades of witnesses
Will rival Pasadena’s
If that’s what people vote for
Amen, I say so be it
But looking in my crystal ball
It’s really hard to see it
Contribute to the outcome
Make some bold selections
Go and cast your ballot
That’s why we have elections
Exercise those voting rights
