For weeks we’ve been obsessing on
The delegates and counting
While every day employment falls
And deficits keep mounting

The chalkers go on chalking
And the pols keep up the chatter
It’s easy, then, to overlook
The things that really matter

This week I read a story
That’s as sad as it is strange
That’s if you have insurance
From a government exchange

Remember how they promised
When Obamacare began
That you could keep your doctor and
That you could keep your plan?

Well, darling, if you’re pregnant
And on Covered California
There’s been a little problem
And I think I ought to warn ya’

The system has been programmed
By a bureaucrat named Hal
To switch you from the plan you have
To one called, “Medi-Cal”

That shouldn’t be a problem
Not, at least, ‘till you’ve discovered
The doctor you’ve been seeing
Isn’t one that’s covered

The fact they didn’t announce it
And you don’t know what to do
Is peddled by a spokesman
As a minimal snafu

It’s just an inconvenience
What’s a few appointments missed?
Give government a month or two
And they’ll provide a list

Of doctors you can wait a month or two
Or more to see
And that should make you happy
‘Cause the coverage is “free”

The government is on your side
And wants you to remember
That they should have the system
Up and running by November

Jerry Brown has good advice
For pregnant women which is
Don’t go into labor
‘Till we work out all the glitches

You want to see the future?
Well, I’ll give you all a hint
Health like California
And your water, just like Flint
