We were once told by the pundits
Sitting like Madame Defarges
Who cares that there’s no evidence
It’s the gravity of the charges

What’s alleged is so atrocious
Can you blame us if we’re curious?
Does it matter that it’s likely
That the information’s spurious

Though there’s not a shred of data
Of a clue, not one scintilla
We’re obliged to get the story
And go at it like Godzilla

We like disinformation
Our platforms have been made for it
As regards our favorite candidate
We’re delighted that she paid for it

We were told they took the high ground
But they really went quite low
And to think that it all happened only
Four short years ago

Now the evidence is patent
And we’ve got the smoking gun
Are you shocked that in the Congress
A casino’s being run?

That a lifelong politician
Could be caught up in his lies
And an office, just a platform
For the influence it buys?

And every day that passes
By dribs and drabs we’re learning
The smoking gun’s not smoking
The thing is outright burning

But this time the allegations
Don’t deserve a close inspection
And besides it wouldn’t fair
Cause it’s too close to the election

I’ve never seen such hogwash
Or such arrogance and gall
I’d allege a double standard
If they had standards at all
