In the aftermath of Zeros

Dropping death out of the blue

The country stood as one

And knew precisely what to do

When the earthquake shook my city

And the walls around us fell

Everyone was certain

We could climb out of that hell

When the airplanes hit the towers

And the skies were turning black

The passengers on 93

Had started fighting back

We’re a land of great resilience

When our confidence is high

And for years we’ve feared no rival

From the land or sea or sky

But today I’m not so positive

And here’s the reason why

We’re told that facts are fallacies

That truth is all perceptional

Our country may be powerful

But really not exceptional

Our beliefs are superstitions

And our diet is the worst

We’ve killed a dozen species

Just to satisfy our thirst

We’re a cancer on the planet

Writes our very kindest critic

And the best that can be said of us

Is that we’re parasitic

What a lousy litany

But that’s not where I’ll leave it

For a million college graduates

Hear this and  believe it

Now when your best and brightest

Have all left and gone to lunch

How can you then be confident

That we can take a punch
