Another year has come and gone
Snow and hail and rain-full
I fell and hurt my leg and back
Oy! It was so painful
Johanna bought a lovely car
Before one bill was paid
The dashboard lights were flashing
And we needed lemon – aid
Joey’s life was going well
Hard work about to payoff
Then came the corporate merger
And he became a layoff
It wasn’t very merry
Yes, we’ve had quite a year- full
Nonetheless I must confess
We’re all still glad and cheerful
It hasn’t been the best of times
No strolling through the clover
Despite the cloud we’re under
Well, we’re all still six feet over
We count our blessings daily
(That’s what we ought to do)
And chief among those blessings
Are the folks I read this to
These words are the expressions of
Our friendship, sweet & pleasant,
Your likes, replies and messages
My greatest Christmas present
So, if the news has got you down
With bills and threats and drones
Pick up a cup of Christmas cheer
While putting down your phones
And if you see some blinking lights
While gazing at the skies
Please don’t shoot down Santa
While he’s transiting Van Nuys
Please have a Merry Christmas
Because it should be clear
The months that lie before us
Will make a better year
