The autumn leaves are turning
And the frost is on the pun’kin
I’d like to thank McAuliffe
For handing this to Youngkin

He threw the pitch he wanted to
But boy did that guy groove it
He put his foot into his mouth
And just would not remove it

And even more than Terry
I’m thanking Youngkin too
For taking on the challenge
Which he didn’t have to do

He ran a booming business
He was not a politician
But he loved the state he lived in
And he made that state his mission

He faced the slings and arrows
And the personal attacks
By telling all Virginians
“Hey folks, I’ve got your backs”

He did it though the pundits
Were all saying in advance
“The numbers tell the story
And he doesn’t have a chance”

Thank you to the candidates
All across this nation
Who ran for local offices
To little adulation

The mother and the minister
The trucker and the kid
To those of you who didn’t win
And those of you who did

You showed the mighty media
A movement has begun
And citizens still have a say
In how this country’s run

That liberals will make mistakes
When given too much rope
And America and how it goes
Is still the last best hope
