There are things that I’d be doing
If I had a million dollars
But one wouldn’t be attending
To the thoughts of legal scholars

Oh, I know some are enchanted
By the legal take and give
But most people chose, quite rightly,
That we have our lives to live

These experts sound so certain
To the point they seem deluded
It’s a trait of their profession
(Present company excluded)

Yes, I’m basing my conclusion
You can tell me if I’m wrong to
Their opinions are determined
By the party they belong to

They’ve been trained in school to argue
Any way that they’re inclined
If their ox is being gored
By the axe they have to grind

They digested all the transcripts
And they shared in-depth analyses
Then proceeded to analogize
In the form of foolish fallacies

Now, the one thing that I’m sure of
As I wander through life’s journeys
In our legislative bodies
There are too many attorneys

We need doctors, we need soldiers
We need poets, we need teachers
Our country should elect
The true diversity it features

You may call my notion foolish
Go ahead and have your laugh
Of the Declaration’s signers
Lawyers made up less than half

Yes, they planted seeds of freedom
Do we have the will to reap it
And they gave us a Republic
Do we have the skills to keep it?
