I need a break from Politics
A long-delayed vacation
Some hours without worry
To begin rejuvenation

But when I try to book a flight
(To wander through some heather)
I’m told there’s nothing flying
I guess it’s just the weather

Perhaps I’ll take a restful drive
But fuel costs more than vino
And with the gas that’s in my car
I’ll barely make Encino

I’ll start my Christmas shopping
Be one of Santa’s elves
But when I get to “Toys Were Us”
There’s nothing on the shelves

I’ll do some volunteering
I’ll join the P.T.A.
I’m sure those boards would love to hear
The things I’ve got to say

I’ll watch some college football
Or maybe watch the pros
It’s just a game, thank goodness
There’s no politics in those

I’ll stream some entertainment
And hear a comic joke
It’s just for laughs and no one cares
If comedy is woke

It is as if the universe
Is trying to remind us
There’s no place where we’re breathing
That politics won’t find us

So don’t sit on the sidelines
And never be deterred
Now is the time for you, good friends
To have your voices heard.
