We Do This Every Sunday (with thanks to Bishop Barron)

We do this every Sunday

We gather and we pray

And though this may surprise you

Some do it every day

We come by foot or taxi

But most of us in cars

Then find a pew to listen from

The one we claim as ours

We harken to the readings

(Although they never rhyme)

A library of wisdom

Which has stood the test of time

We sing the songs of worship

We stand and kneel and sit

And all the other rituals

So proper, right, and fit

We never book a tee time

We don’t go to the gym

So we can be together

In memory of HIM

But once a year in springtime

We’re called to a reflection

Of how all this began

With an astounding resurrection

Of how a great creation

Was darkened by The Fall

And how a great Creator

Redeemed us once, for all

Welcome to the table

Leave behind your fear

In the words of Peter

It is good that you are here

We do this every Sunday

Good women and good men

Thank you all for coming

And we hope you’ll come again

Commission a poem from Joe

Tell him the story. He'll find the verse in it.
