Unity

 

 If I had been a patriarch 
 there wouldn’t have been a schism
 The point of view that shapes my life 
 has been ecumenism
  
 I meet each contradiction with 
 A chuckle and a smile 
 To blunt a confrontation 
 I will run a country mile
  
 If you break laws that you don’t like 
 Please do so with impunity 
 Whatever measures it may take
 To grow the goal of unity
  
 To move the country forward
 And this attitude advance
 I’ve come up with a slogan
 “Let’s give Joe a chance.”
  
 Join me in this movement
 And we may just have a trend
 It’s always good to assay
 How far backwards we can bend
  
 We may run out of oil 
 And there may be war with France
 Don’t be so contentious
 Let’s give Joe a chance
  
 If I said I loved his record
 You’d know that I was lying
 But while he was a Senator
 I don’t think he was trying
  
 Power gives some moxie
 To that same old song and dance
 Surrender to the mandate
 And let’s give Joe a chance
  
 We ought to pledge allegiance
 To the plans that he’s designing
 Although it seems uncertain
 That he’s read the things he’s signing
  
 Invest in his ability
 Then quickly refinance
 You get the man you voted for
 So let’s give Joe a chance
