To Johanna

If you listened to the Hugh Hewitt Radio Show today, you know I didn’t present the Greenland poem.  Rather, I read this love lyric for The Tantalizing Tarzana Johanna who has a significant birthday next week.  (Boy, did I surprise her!)  Now, if there’s some enterprising composer who would like to put this to music, contact me and I think we have a hit.

To Johanna

You’ve taught me everything I know

About the things that make Love grow

And every day your words reveal

The precious things that lovers feel

We’ve had so much time together

You would think I’d know the way

To tell you what your friendship means to me

And to find the words to say

But although I live in language

When you appear, my tongue is tied

I need another chance to show you

After all the words I’ve tried

So, teach me how to say I love you

So you hear it a new way

Teach me how to say I love you

Though you hear it every day

Help me understand the feeling

Help me share the feeling too

Teach me how to say I love you

For without a doubt, I do

I do

I do
