Scare Tactics

I was born in New York City

And grew up nobody’s fool

I developed urban radar

And took subway trains to school

I didn’t have no baby bottle

I was brought up on a flask

In hockey I played goalie

And I didn’t wear a mask

I locked monsters in their closets

And I never feared the dark

I ate pizza from Hell’s Kitchen

And I strolled through Central Park

So shout, “I’m from the IRS!”

Or simply holler, “Boo!”

I promise I won’t shiver

It’s not something that I do

But run a politician

That you tell me is enlightened

And I’m shaking in my wellies

Because that’s what makes me frightened

He says he’s got a program

That will work– if it’s just tried

All it takes is some new taxes

To get taken for a ride

You’re so hungry for a leader

He says he’s the guy to feed you

The wolves are on the doorstep

And that’s just where he’ll lead you

So I beg you to consider

From the Bronx to Bowling Green

Please be careful, New York City

As you hallow Halloween

Of the goblins and the gremlins

I advise you to be wary

But a zealot handed power

That is really scary

Commission a poem from Joe

Tell him the story. He'll find the verse in it.
