Resolutions

I’m known to friends and colleagues

As the Grand Procrastinator

My flag contains the motto

“I think I’ll do it later.”

So if I have a new resolve

Or one that is the same

I share the thought with no one

Cause I couldn’t take the shame

Sure, I need to lose some weight

Who among us doesn’t

But I’d never breathe a word

If I was or wasn’t

Get my taxes done on time

What a great idea

And yet I’m sure cruel circumstance

Will once more interfere

Run a mile every day

(My wife would be in shock)

Like last year, I’ll just settle for

A walk around the block

Folks my age should lift some weights

That everybody knows

Alas, I have a phobia

I’ll drop them on my toes

But as I sat, I realized

While working on this rhyme

Like all procrastinators

I’m running out of time

So write a resolution

Mail or post or text one

And do it in this new year

For there may not be a next one

I’ve made a little list myself

I don’t want to dimmish it

And hope that by the tenth of May

I’ll get around to finish it.

Commission a poem from Joe

Tell him the story. He'll find the verse in it.
