Patience is a Virtue

It seems to me ironic

In about a hundred ways

That those who can’t pass bills for years

Want wars to end in days

They write words on a paper

Then have a second look

Then want us all to marvel at

The courage that it took

They send out press releases

That they want the press to quote

And say that in a month or two

We might just get a vote

Remind them something’s urgent

And ask them what they say

They’ll shake their heads and tell you,

“Son, things just don’t work that way.”

But strike the heart of terror

A brutal realm and sickly

And they will say, indignantly,

“Can’t you do it quickly?”

Arrogance and ignorance

Are basic to their crime

They can’t construct a railroad

Let alone run it on time

A plague be on their houses

And on their senates too

Let’s turn them all out on their ears

(well, maybe keep a few)

And while they daily fiddle

And mark up what they’re writing

The very best and brightest

Go out and do the fighting

They heard the call of duty

And they’ve kept us safe through wars

Every day they do their jobs

For pity’s sake, do yours!
