I have some strong opinions
And this one is a beauty
Even if you aren’t there
We’re all on jury duty
And if I were the foreman
I’d send the judge a note
Reminding him as citizens
That we all have a vote
And now that we’re sequestered
And we’ve made our introductions
I’ll give you, fellow jurors
A taste of my instructions
On the first count of the charges
Did the prosecution show
That you’re better off today
Than you were just four years ago
In meeting and succeeding
All the challenges we face
You must ask if the incumbent
Did enough to make his case
Are wars and conflicts raging
Are innocents still dying
To stop these conflagrations
Is he even really trying
And your last determination
And perhaps the most momentous
Is the candidate all there
Or, sadly, non compos mentis
That, my fellow jurors
Is what this is all about
Voting is your duty
And you can’t sit this one out
I’ve thought about this daily
And it’s bugged me for a while
It seems to me, quite frankly
That the wrong man is on trial
