In the strangest unintended
Of all consequences yet
Folks are taking notice
When new precedents are set

Take it from a person
Who well knows of what he speaks
This is what I’ve been through
In just the past two weeks

A girl who I last dated
In 1982
Wrote me a long letter
Just to tell me we were through

My coach in high school basketball
(Did that guy have a gut)
He called me on the telly
And he told me I was cut

And though I haven’t worked for them
Since back in twenty-ten
I got a note from Disney
That they laid me off again

I haven’t played a hockey game
In lo, these many years
But they pulled me for a ringer
And I’ve been reduced to tears

But if you think I’m down
That’s not a place I’m gonna stay at
If all this is a game
Then it’s one that two can play at

I’m cancelling my membership
At Blockbuster, I am
And when I finally fly again
It won’t be on Pan Am

I’m giving up my Edsel
But I think I’ll stick to rhyming
If you want to be successful
What’s important is…the timing
