I’m Asking Nicely

In a year or so the Democrats

Will have a big decision

Is there someone in the party

That can patch up the division

A newbie with charisma

Or an old familiar face

Who can mold a party platform

That will unify the base

Someone who will rise

To both the moment and the hour

And pose a worthy challenge to

Republicans in power

Now, I like to think success

Will give Republicans the edge

I don’t want to spend election night

Out standing on some ledge

But since nothing’s for certain

In politics or war

To all our loyal Democrats

I beg you; I implore

You can do a giant favor

To the people of this nation

Give us Kamala and Hillary

In any combination

You can put up Amy Klobuchar

Or even Pocahontas

You can dragoon Albanese

And then fly him in on Qantas

Do anything but cater to this

Nightmare that I’m havin’

You can run out Bernie Sanders

But please don’t give us Gavin

He destroyed the state I live in

And that’s worthy of attention

With pandering, indifference

And searing condescension

You will make some major choices

You will win some, you will rue some

But you’ll never make a better one

Than dumping Gavin Newsom

Commission a poem from Joe

Tell him the story. He'll find the verse in it.
