Here in California
Where we always do things right
Some sensitive recordings
Have been brought into the light
Three LA politicians
Who are famous for their pandering
Were caught on tape discussing
The fruits of gerrymandering
They move through their discussions
With hostility and zest
You’d have to say their language
Was… colorful, at best
The media took notice
Because remarks were racial
And they fervently believe
That all politics is facial
But what caught my attention
In the shadow of the Getty
Was to witness that these people
Are both petulant and petty
What they seem to focus on
Hour after hour
Are the means at their disposal
For holding on to power
Not homelessness or poverty
Or other worthy missions
But the never-ending struggle
Of retaining their positions
Instead of public servants
They act like lesser rulers
To say that they were childish
Insults all middle-schoolers
The air is getting cleaner
And the weather’s often great
But this, my friends, is living
In a uni-party state
I thought this was Progressive Land
I guess I was mistaken
Will this be the scandal
That helps the woke, awaken?
