Erik the Red Meets Donald the Orange

It’s cold and vast and desolate

A frigid and a mean land

But Erik was a realtor

And therefore called it Greenland

The folks he brought in summer

They found themselves a nice land

At least, by most comparisons

To what they left in Iceland

Was it lower interest rates

Or mead that all were drinking

They came there in the thousands

Because of wishful thinking

Establishing two settlements

At Qaqortoq and Nuuk

Inviting other Norsemen

To come and have a look

Now, some may call it marketing

And some may call it theft

The horns froze off their helmets

And they all up and left

Dutch colonists came later

And those guys are the worst

The Dorset, Thule and Saqqaq

Those cultures were there first

Now what was once a wilderness

With hardly trail or byway

Finds itself the center of

A hypersonic highway

And if this global warming

Is as bad as they report

Think of all that coastline

And what a grand resort

Somewhere there’s a diplomat

To get this to “win-win”

To make for Don the Orange

The biggest deal that’s ever been

Commission a poem from Joe

Tell him the story. He'll find the verse in it.
