A man is measured by his friends

So make as many as you can

Then when your span of living ends

They’ll tell the world, “Oh, what a man!”

I’ve seen the people on TV

Educated, warm, and wise

Carefully recite the deeds

Of people that they eulogize

But with the passing of a man

So tragic in this shattered week

The friends who knew him best of all

Could barely find the strength to speak

A part of them was lost, I’m sure

To lose a man they want to bless

Will their souls recover?  No.

For no man is an island.  Yes.

You didn’t have to know him well

A simple glance and you’d have learned

He loved this country with his heart

And in that heart a fire burned

Author, speaker, Man of God

Husband, Father, Fighter, Friend

To Him to whom you pledged your life

May these words your soul commend

I know for some that thoughts and prayers

Are sources of frustration

But we’re not praying for a man

We’re praying for a nation
