CHANGE

With all the skills at my command

I’ve struggled so to understand

Just how this world became so strange

And what occurred to make it change

Why would the spirit of the times

Assess no punishment for crimes?

And intellectuals agree

That violent felons should walk free?

It makes no sense

No sense to me

Why would a person change direction

If there’s no process for correction?

To set men free

A savior’s sent

I don’t think this is what He meant

There must have been some oversight

Ideas don’t change overnight

And so I look back to the schools

Which I think must be run by fools

Ask teachers what began our fall

There is no discipline at all

Back in the day, we feared detention

And other things I will not mention

But all those teachers have retired

Fail a student and you’re fired

We turn our eyes and pull the shades

There is no consequence, no grades

And if my friends, you’ve never learned

Success and punishment are earned

Why would you sanction or support

Someone else’s day in court?

So now I know with all my knowing

God is good

And Jesus saves

And when change comes in comes in ripples

Small inconsequential ripples

Not in monumental waves
