C-SPAN Poem

A wise man said back in the days

When wisdom was well-paid

“You never want to see the way

That sausages are made”

The meat that’s ground

The spice that’s used

The way the casings burst

Pray you never witness

The worst things about wurst

It’s also said of movies

Please don’t by any means

Push aside the magic

And peek behind the scenes

And likewise it’s acknowledged

Across our lovely nation

You can say the same is true

For making legislation

For while the laws that run us

Come in many shapes and sizes

They’re made of out-takes,

Offal, and too many compromises

Then back in broadcast history

A channel was begun

To put the whole dang process

Before God and everyone

We saw Newt Gingrich speeches

And Tip O’Neill remarks

And tuned in for the hearings

Which set off all those sparks

You can argue which is better

But of this I am certain

We owe a lot to C-Span

For pulling back the curtain

Commission a poem from Joe

Tell him the story. He'll find the verse in it.
