All Politics is Local

I’ve never told this story
And as i was going through it

I thought that if I ever did

Now was the time to do it

In LA, there are Councils

And voters make a choice

Of unpaid representatives

To give our “hood” its voice

They run for the position

Well knowing this provisory

They really have no power

Their function is advisory

They get the crosswalks painted

Propose lanes for your bike

Weighing in on trash collection

Speed bumps and the like

And right from their inception

Up to this present hour

(I know that I repeat myself)

They don’t have any power

Now, for the last election

When I went to cast my vote

My session at the polling place

Hit quite a sour note

I went to grab my ballot

But the clerk prevented me

“Not so fast, there bucko

I’ve got to see ID”

Lovingly, he grabbed my wrist

And as I went to free it

I said, “To vote for President

You didn’t have to see it.”

“Be that as it may, my friend

I have no hoots to give

To vote in THIS election

You must prove the place you live”

“But I’m Tarzan Joe,” I said

Or course, he answered, “Who?”

To tamper down my temperature

That isn’t what you do

I won’t go any further

With this absurdist tale

Thanks to my pacific wife

I didn’t end up in jail

But there you have it listeners

For purpose and intents

Please go and ask your Lefty friends

Does this make any sense?

Commission a poem from Joe

Tell him the story. He'll find the verse in it.
