Now there’s this great old guy I know
We like to call him Day One Joe
His grip is tight, his mind is sound
He’s running hard to hit the ground
He’s clean as clouds who’ve seen a shower
And keen to grasp the reins of power
To take each challenge well in hand
Prepared for years to take command
He’s been our man in far flung places
Knows leaders on a first name basis
To show how far ahead he is
He calls the Queen of England, Liz
And you can read this in the news
He’s never strayed from party views
He’s firm and fixed as he can be
And when things change, well, so does he
Back and forth, just like a ferry
And like his friend, Lieutenant Kerry
You heard this when debates commenced
He’s for what he was once against
On many things he’s wise and knowing
Most clearly how the wind is blowing
Some say the guy is past his prime
That kind of talk should be a crime
So what if there’s a random slip
We’ll just buy some more Polygrip
For like the man he served, says he
He’s absolutely scandal-free
Of all the Democrats I know
This is the guy who’s good to go
He’s got the skills—don’t doubt him, chum
To bring us Medicare for Some
He’ll make the peace and cool the earth
No telling what that all is worth
He’ll cut the debt and ban the gun
And do it all—Day One
