This is a week for feasting

This is a week for thanks

Of all the weeks throughout the year

The top is where this ranks

With great anticipation

We know before it ends

We’ll fill the hours with food and talk;

With family and friends

We’ll share the ways we’re grateful

For how the good things find us

And amplify our gratitude

For bad things put behind us

And so a word of warning

Dear sisters and  dear brothers

Some may recollect this year

More joyfully than others

Try to use diplomacy

Whenever you are able

You may wear your MAGA hat

But, please, not at the table.

And just the way you’d overlook

Some menu imperfections

Don’t start conversations

Over cabinet selections

If they bring up the subject

And ask about your vote

Pass the mashed potatoes

And for pity’s sake, don’t gloat

Reach out the hand of friendship

And reconciliation

Welcome them to join in prayers

To help and heal the nation

But if your pleasant overtures

Are angrily rebuffed

Offer them some dressing

And tell them to get stuffed
