We all have learned that war is hell

Those who fight them learn that well

And though we see wars on TV

They witness what we’ll never see

For when our view gets too darn hot

We look away when they cannot

Now, we all know, you’d be a liar

To say no soldier’s under fire

No matter what your cause or side

In this world, there’s no place to hide

For spies are lurking in your phones

With bombs and batteries and drones

Planning for the next attack

We all have targets on our back

Remember hippies used to shout

Presidents should duke it out

Kleptocrats all wanted war

And no cause was worth fighting for

But now that they’ve grown up to lead

Suddenly, they see the need

And when one guy says war should stop

They label him a commie prop

They call his view unrealistic

And each day brings a grim statistic

Wow, have all the tables turned

Have they forgotten what we learned

So, though I could go on at length

The clearest way is,  “Peace through strength.”

And, speaking for the dear departed

The best war is one never started
