When all of this is over
And we’re heading back to work
The jurist and the juror
And the client and the clerk

When the virus takes a powder
As the world around us warms
And we get back to our businesses
And other social norms

When the numbers are digested
And the patterns are all clearer
What will we be seeing
When we look into the mirror?

Will we find we had more patience
Than we ever thought we had
Or the job we felt beneath our skills
Was really not so bad?

Will we have completed projects
We all promised to begin
Will we all speak foreign languages
Or play the violin?

Will we see appreciation
For the bar and for the beach
For the people who deliver
And for all the saints who teach?

Will we then express our gratitude
(We really ought to do it)
For all essential personnel
Who worked to get us through it?

When the situation’s over
And the aftermath assessed
Will we pause and take a moment
To appreciate we’re blessed?

What will we come away with
When w study this, precisely
Will we listen to each other now
And get along more nicely?

Will we face the next great challenge
And not easily be scared
Will we resurrect the Boy Scouts
And their motto, “Be Prepared”?
