It strikes me as imprudent
And alarmingly un-subtle
While Rumsfeld and Dick Cheney
May seek time for some rebuttal
But why release this now
When the momentum’s at an ebb?
Did someone really think
That this would be a jolt for Jeb?
One reason that the Bushes
Are respected by the right
Is the overall perception
That they’re cautious and polite
So what’s the point of starting
Internecine altercation?
If this release was planned
It was a gross miscalculation
Political biographies
Are filled with slurs and slander
And Caesar’s Gallic Wars
Were so much Roman propaganda
Herodotus was arguably
The worst we ever had
The Persians were just charming
And the Spartans weren’t so bad
Every observation
Should be seasoned with some salt
Especially the ones
That seek to blame the folks at fault
So when you read the stories
Of the saints and of the sinners
Remember, friends that history
Is written by the winners
