We must admit that we’ve been changed
Once bold, now fearful
We watch our words and what we think
Lest we provoke another rage
How tearful.

We wage war upon ourselves
Deny not only what we see
But feel
Or look the other way although we know
The wounds we fail to treat
Won’t heal

We are too close
It seems a score of years should do
But somewhere deep
I really wish I could forget
Don’t you?

So ring the bells
Awake the memories of lives we lost
And face the fact that this one act
Reminds us all of Freedom’s painful cost
