My cousin came to visit
He’s a New York refugee
He grew up on Long Island
But he’s living in N.C.

When the Knicks and when the Giants
Are the teams where you were born it’s
Tough to change allegiance
To the Panthers and the Hornets

But the weather there is nicer
And the pace of life is slower
The houses are much bigger
And the taxes are much lower

You can get a giant soda
You can drink it with a straw
Eating fries and burgers
Is not against the law

They like companies who hire
They think full employment’s great
If a person builds a business
They don’t chase them out of state

They’ve got beaches, they have mountains
There’s a lot to see and do
You can walk out on the sand dunes
Where Ohio boys first flew

But New York and California
Are the haunts of the elite
Let me tell you that the wiser ones
Are voting with their feet

Yes, it used to be Manhattan
Where the great chefs paid their dues
But they left when Bloomberg limited
The salt that they could use

I could rent a little bungalow
And sell the one I own
Leave the city limits
And go off to parts unknown

My friends who hear me planning
Say my plans are so much bull
By the time I get my move on
Carolina will be full
