I placed a post on Facebook
For the first time in a year
To ask my fervent followers
What poem they’d like to hear

What topic might engage them
What tone and in what vein
And should I use this platform
To provoke or entertain

Then many great suggestions
Were quickly penned and posted
So much so that this rhyme
Is by a hundred authors, ghosted

Some said I should encourage
Our host’s plan, bold and wise
On how to have the hearings run
When Bruce Ohr testifies

Instead of fuss and bluster
And congresspersons yappin’
Yield to a “real” lawyer
Yeah, like that’s gonna happen

Teachers and their students
Were keen to hear me say
A word or two on summer
As it’s dwindling away

Another season’s solstice
Will soon be fled and faded
No more visits to the shore
Or lemonade stands raided

Others bid me focus more
On politics and laws
On building trains through Banning
Or on banning plastic straws

On censorship and voter fraud
On ANTIFA and ISIS
On word on Urban Meyer
Or the “so-called” pension crisis

Each of these is weighty
And quite worthy of reflection
So trust me, they’ll be written on
Before the next election

This poem, I fear, was rambling
And not quite as I planned
And I sincerely hope
It doesn’t get me shadow-banned

Now outside in Tarzana
My followers are massing
Demanding that I write a poem
On Stan Makita’s passing

On all the ways he labored
To help the Blackhawks win
I tried to get there Mrs. Roos
But just couldn’t fit it in
